They say the Portuguese word saudade has no real English translation, but everyone knows the feeling. It is the sense of longing or emptiness you get from missing someone, something or somewhere — and also contains the fear that you will never see it again. All those who have surfed Ericeira, Portugal’s surf Mecca, know this feeling. They feel it for the place, the people and of course the waves. The only way to soothe saudade is to come back, again and again — and that is exactly what people do. From professional surfers to enthusiastic beginners: All fall in love with Ericeira, which is why The Save the Waves Coalition chose it as Europe’s first and — so far — only World Surfing Reserve. Let us share this magical place with you. Come see why CNN Travel selected Ericeira as one of its 4 super swell surf towns, and the only located in Europe. Surf and relax on clean, environmentally certified Blue Flag beaches, right on your doorstep. And for your convenience we offer pickup and drop off service for the airport in Lisbon.
Our surfcamp is a home away from home, but ours is only 200 metres from one of Europe’s most beautiful and unspoiled beaches. Away from the stress and pollution of the city and surrounded by nature, but featuring all the creature comforts for the perfect surf getaway, our two-story villa has scenic beach views, a large dining room, and a private garden for relaxing with a glass of local wine on the day bed. It is equipped with free Wi-Fi and plenty of comfort and charm. Ready to surf? Take a 3-minute walk to Foz do Lizandro Beach, one of Ericeira’s famed surf spots and the ideal place to learn how to surf. All of Ericeira’s breaks are within 20 km (12 mi) of our surfcamp and suit a wide variety of skill levels. The most famous and longest of these is Ribeira d’Ilhas, part of the ASP World Tour Surf Championship. When you’re not surfing, enjoy the great local food, wine and atmosphere. Ericeira is one of the most unspoiled natural areas in Europe and the swimming and beach sports are top-notch.
